App policy

Vital Sim Monitor Privacy Policy

Vital Sim Monitor is a multi-iPad patient-monitor simulator for medical and nursing education. It is not a medical device, does not connect to real patient sensors, and does not collect or process real patient health information. This policy describes what the app collects, how it is used, and what you can do about it.

Last updated: May 23, 2026

At a glance

Vital Sim Monitor can be used anonymously. If you sign in, we store an email address, a hashed password, and any simulation debriefs you choose to save. A debrief you save may include the names and optional emails of the training participants you enter. We do not collect real patient health information. We do not use advertising, analytics, or attribution SDKs.

Simulation only — not a medical device

Vital Sim Monitor is education software intended only for medical and nursing simulation training. It is not a medical device. It is not connected to real patient sensors, does not import or display real patient data, is not validated for clinical decision-making, and does not have FDA, CE, or any other regulatory clearance. Do not use it for patient monitoring, diagnosis, treatment, triage, or emergency use.

What the app does not collect

  • Real patient health information, patient identities, or medical record numbers of any kind.
  • Photos, contacts, calendar, location, microphone, motion data, or HealthKit data.
  • Advertising identifiers or third-party analytics SDK data.
  • Any information about your training participants automatically. Participant names and emails are collected only when you, the instructor, type them into a debrief — see "Simulated session data" below.

Account information (only if you sign in)

The app can be used anonymously — you can run local Wi-Fi sessions between iPads without creating an account or providing any information.

If you choose to sign in through Settings → Account, you provide an email address and password to authenticate against a Supabase project that the developer maintains. We store:

  • Your email address, used for login and occasionally to send you a TestFlight invite or a one-time recovery link.
  • A hashed password through Supabase authentication; the developer never sees your plaintext password.
  • An automatically generated user ID, used to associate your saved scenarios and debriefs with you.

We do not sell, share, or rent your email address to anyone.

Simulated session data (only if you sign in)

When you sign in and run a scenario, the app can optionally save the following to Supabase:

  • The scenario you ran, including title and learning objectives.
  • The simulated vitals at moments you triggered an event.
  • The simulated medications you administered.
  • The debrief content you wrote at the end of the scenario, including instructor notes, learner ratings, and recipient email list.
  • The training participants you optionally add to the debrief. For each participant you choose to enter, this includes their name, their optional email address, their clinical role, their department, the simulation role they played, and any instructor follow-up flag and note. These fields describe the learners in your session — they are people you choose to record, not patients, and every field is optional and entered by you.
  • Certificates of completion that you generate.

The clinical values here are all simulated — there are no real patients involved. The participant names and emails, if you enter any, are real information about the people you are teaching. The intent is to record your teaching session for later review with your students. Only enter participant details you are authorized to record, and let your learners know their names are being saved.

Pairing data (always, in-memory only)

When two or more iPads pair to run a session together, the app exchanges a randomly generated peer identifier that refreshes each launch, the role each device has picked (Controller, Monitor, or Bedside), and the current simulated state being edited.

This data is exchanged over one of two transports:

  • Local Wi-Fi through Multipeer Connectivity. This stays on the local network and is never sent to any server.
  • Remote room code through Supabase Realtime. This travels through the developer's Supabase project, scoped to a room code. The room channel is ephemeral — once all devices leave, nothing is retained beyond what you explicitly chose to save.

To use the local Wi-Fi transport, iOS asks permission to access the local network the first time you run a session. You can revoke this permission in Settings → Vital Sim Monitor at any time.

Crash reports and technical diagnostics

If the app crashes and you have opted in to crash reporting through iOS Settings → Privacy and Security → Analytics and Improvements → Share with App Developers, Apple sends the crash trace to the developer through App Store Connect. These reports do not include any personal information — they describe what was happening inside the app at the moment of the crash.

If you submit a bug report through the Diagnostics screen at Settings → About → Diagnostics → Copy to clipboard, the copied text contains the app's build identifier, iOS version, iPad model, your current role, the active pairing transport and peer count, and the current scenario name if any. This text contains no personal information unless you choose to include some when you send the report to the developer.

How we use information

  • To let you sign in to your account.
  • To save your simulation debriefs so you can review them later.
  • To coordinate cross-network simulations between paired iPads.
  • To diagnose bugs you report.

We do not use any of this information for advertising, analytics, or to build profiles about you.

Data retention and deletion

  • Local Wi-Fi pairing data is never written to disk and never leaves the local network. It is gone the moment the session ends.
  • Remote room-code pairing data is held by Supabase Realtime only for the duration of the room channel. Once all devices leave the channel, no Realtime data is retained.
  • Saved debriefs and certificates persist in Supabase until you delete them or close your account. Contact the developer to request account deletion; we will remove your account and all associated debriefs within thirty days.
  • Crash reports are retained by App Store Connect for one year per Apple's standard policy.

Children

Vital Sim Monitor is intended for adult learners in medical and nursing education programs. It is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you believe your child has provided us information, contact the developer and we will delete it.

Third-party services

The app uses the following third-party services:

  • Supabase for authentication, database, and Realtime pairing — supabase.com/privacy.
  • Apple App Store Connect for app distribution and crash reporting — apple.com/legal/privacy.
  • Resend (if you opt to send debrief emails) for transactional email delivery — resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.

The app does not include any advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or attribution SDKs.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under GDPR, CCPA, or similar laws to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information, request deletion of your account and associated data, opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell any personal information), and object to certain processing.

To exercise any of these rights, contact the developer at richard@yourfriendrich.com. We will respond within thirty days.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where possible, notify you through the app. Continued use of the app after a change indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
